I had the opportunity to illustrate “The Hornbill”, a folktale from Tripura, in Northeast India. A story rooted in female rage, the illustrations draw inspiration from the state’s rich bamboo craft traditions, incorporating its patterns, structures, and details throughout the visual language of the book. These elements are interwoven with the characters and compositions to subtly reflect the underlying themes of the tale.
